Kerry Manson - Clinical Psychologist

Clinical Psychologist, Cognitive Analytic Therapist (CAT), Accredited CAT Supervisor and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Practitioner

Before qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 1999 I worked both as a general and psychiatric nurse in London and Liverpool. As a Clinical Psychologist I have worked in the community with people with a variety of mental health difficulties, in a High Secure Hospital and managed a therapy service in a local prison. I also worked as a voluntary therapist in the organisation Freedom from Torture. As a result of these experiences I have developed skills in working with people who experience difficulties with their relationships and those who have experienced trauma.

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a way of finding out what your problems and difficulties are; how they started; how they affect your everyday life – your relationships, your working life and your choices of how to get the best out of your life. It helps you to think about the importance of relationships in your life including the relationship you have with yourself and with me as your therapist. It is a time-limited therapy of usually around 16 sessions but can be reduced or extended according to your needs. There is a particular focus on endings and the importance of you knowing when the therapy ends and working towards this, especially if you have had distressing and/or endings in the past. Please see the ACAT website for more information about this type of therapy:

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro in the 1990s in which the person being treated is asked to recall distressing images; the therapist then directs the client in one type of bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping.[1] It is included in several evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).

I am able to deliver these interventions separately or in combination if appropriate.
